One of the reasons our Bakery’s homemade treats are so delicious is because we make our own vanilla extract! Here’s an easy recipe you can try at home.
- 4–6 vanilla beans
- 8 ounces vodka or other non-flavored spirit (rum, bourbon, etc.)
Split vanilla beans in half lengthwise, leaving the tip of one end attached. Place in a clean bottle then fill with vodka, making sure the beans are completely submerged. Close securely and store in a cool, dark location for at least 3 months, shaking bottle once per week.
The longer the vanilla extract steeps, the darker and more intense the vanilla flavor will become. Infusing for 3 months will yield usable vanilla extract, but 6 months to a year is ideal for maximum flavor.
