Here in the states, Toad in the Hole (a.k.a. Egg in a Hole) is a simple breakfast staple. Just cut a hole out of a slice of bread, toast it in a pan with butter, then crack an egg in the center and cook to your desired doneness!
Ingredients
- 2 slices sourdough bread
- 1–2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 eggs
- Kosher salt, to taste
- Cracked black pepper, to taste
Preparation
Heat large nonstick pan on medium heat.
Butter one side of each slice of bread. With a cutter or knife, make a hole in the center of the bread about 2½–3 inches in diameter.
Place bread butter-side down in the pan and toast for 1–2 minutes, until golden brown. Turn bread over, place 1 teaspoon of butter in the hole of each bread, and then crack 1 egg into each hole. Cook until eggs are desired degree of doneness. Cover with a lid to speed up cooking or flip toast over with egg for over easy.
