Grilled with caramelized onions and stone ground mustard, this Taleggio cheese sandwich makes for a hearty and satisfying meal.
- 1 ounce butter, softened
- 4 slices whole wheat bread
- 8 ounces Taleggio cheese, sliced
- 2 ounces stone ground mustard
- 4 ounces caramelized onions
- 4 ounces apple, sliced thin
In a large nonstick frying pan, heat half the butter over medium-low heat.
Spread the remaining butter on one side of each of the four slices of bread, then place bread butter-side-down into the frying pan. Arrange the sliced Taleggio on two of the slices of bread. On the remaining slices, spread the whole grain mustard and arrange the caramelized onions and sliced apples.
With the fillings facing each other, place the mustard/onion bread slices on top of the two slices with cheese. Grill until golden and brown, about 1 minute. Flip the sandwiches to ensure even browning on both sides.
Serve and enjoy while still hot.
